Noncollegiate College credits Empty Noncollegiate College credits

I'am a NYS Correction Officerwho has several friends that are City Correction Officers. Currently state officers earn 16 college credits after completing their academy training however, our city counter parts can earn a full 30 semester credit. Is this solely determined by our training? Also, what are the specific factors account for this difference in credit award?

Noncollegiate College credits Empty Corrections credit recommendations

Thanks for your question, Dennis. I believe that the city corrections program was evaluated by John Jay School of Criminal Justice (CUNY) and the NYS program was evaluated by National PONSI. The credit differences may be due to the number or types of courses offered. For more detailed information, visit our College Credit Recommendations Online Directory at and click on CCR Online, then go to NYS Corrections Department and also contact the department chairperson at John Jay College.
